Okay, so it’s Monday… But, we had some fun this weekend and I didn’t get around to sharing it sooner. Sorry…
I put a few little toys in a variety of plastic storage containers, filled the containers part way with water, then stuck them in the freezer overnight.
When we got the “ice sculptures” out of the freezer, Oliver and Jack had a great time trying to figure out how to get the ice out of the container and then how to get the toys out of the ice.
Originally, they wanted me to get the toy out for them, which would have defeated the purpose of exploration. Instead, I showed them a few ideas like to rub the container between their hands to create heat, to lick the ice, or to drop it on the ground. Okay, that last one was an accident, but it worked and they loved it.
You could even use an ice cube tray and fill the tray with toy cars or tiny princesses, or whatever your kiddo is interested in. The ice would be easier to get out of the container that way, but would also melt sooner.
Hope you’ll give this one a try!
